Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 July 2026
1. Who is responsible for your data
Pawology is operated by an individual, not a registered company. For the purpose of data protection law (including the EU GDPR), that individual is the controller of the data described below. Contact for any privacy request: info@pawology.de.
2. What we collect
- Account data: email address, and an authentication token managed by Firebase Authentication (Google). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email and profile name from Google.
- Pet profile data (only if you create one): pet name, species, breed, age, size, weight, allergies, health goal, budget tier. This describes your pet, not you, but we treat it as personal data because it's linked to your account.
- Saved & compared products: stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on our servers, unless tied to a signed-in account.
- Basic technical data: standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps) generated automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and debugging.
We do not collect payment data (the service is free), and we do not run advertising trackers.
3. Why we collect it, and legal basis
We use account and pet profile data to provide the service you asked for: authenticating you, saving your pet profiles, and personalizing product scores to your pet. This is processed under the "performance of a contract" legal basis (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) — it's the data needed to run the feature you're using. Server logs are kept under "legitimate interest" (Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the service secure and working.
4. Who else sees it
We use the following processors to run the service. We don't sell data or share it for advertising.
- Google Firebase (Authentication & Firestore database) — hosts your account and pet profile data. Google may process this data on infrastructure outside the EU; Google maintains its own GDPR-compliant transfer mechanisms (Standard Contractual Clauses).
- Open Pet Food Facts — a public product database we read from. We do not send your personal or pet data to it.
5. How long we keep it
Account and pet profile data is kept until you delete it or delete your account. You can delete a pet profile at any time from your profile page. To delete your account entirely, email us and we'll remove your data within 30 days.
6. Your rights
If GDPR or a similar law applies to you, you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to processing; and receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email info@pawology.de. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children
Pawology is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
8. Changes to this policy
As this project grows we may update this policy — the "Last updated" date above will reflect any change. For material changes we'll post a notice on the site.
